Metro Police Provide Kalksteenfontein Learners with Tips on Safety

18 August 2009
On Tuesday morning (18 August), female officers of the Metro Police embarked on a child safety initiative when they engaged learners of the Kalksteenfontein Primary School in child safety tips. They also conducted a role play, displaying the negative impact drugs have on our society.

The excitement was clearly visible on the faces of the children when they were greeted by the Metro Police officers. The school principal, Mr. Jeff Arendse, welcomed the officers, saying: "The school appreciates the Metro Police coming to our school to inform learners about the importance of their bodies and providing them with safety tips." After the role play and the talks on self awareness and safety, the officers gave each learner a hot cup of soup and bread.

"In today's tough economical climate schools struggle to supply one meal per day to the children and therefore what the Metro Police are doing here today is like manna from heaven to us," Arendse said.

The female officers were accompanied by Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro who also expressed her appreciation to the members and also to the school for allowing them the opportunity to positively engage with the learners.

"The children come from various backgrounds and circumstances, and we are really grateful to the principal and his staff who assisted in making today a huge success. Our members, particularly the female officers, envisage playing a more active role in improving the quality of life of our communities. We are doing it in small steps, but we're getting there," Faro said.
