The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) is continuing to install a new stormwater pipeline in Du Toit St in Montagu. The portion of Du Toit St between Long St and the entrance to the Spar delivery area will be closed to the public until 19 May 2017. The intersection of Long St and Du Toit St will be closed between 08:00 on 22 May 2017 until 08:00 on 24 May 2017. These works form part of a R583-million contract to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof. The project is expected to have been completed in the third quarter of 2018.
During the 48-hour closure of Long Street, eastbound traffic on Long Street will be rerouted to Bath Street via Kohler Street. Should it be necessary, the parking bays on one side of Bath Street will be closed so that through traffic can travel along that portion of the road. Only local access will be permitted on Long Street, between the construction zone and Cross Street. Westbound traffic will be able to continue traveling along Van Riebeeck Street.
The construction team will position flagmen at intersections to help direct traffic.
The Department is aware that delays are frustrating, but some delays during construction are inevitable. The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
