WCED wins big for youth empowerment!
14 February 2025
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has been honoured with the prestigious Food and Beverage Manufacturing SETA (FoodBev SETA) award for “Youth Empowerment in Skills Development”. This award celebrated the WCED’s unwavering commitment to empowering youth through educational initiatives.
The journey started with the launch of a Mathematics and Physical Sciences Tutoring Programme at Luhlaza High School in Khayelitsha, along with a Teacher Capacity Building Programme and a Career Awareness Project, all funded by FoodBev SETA. These projects, in partnership with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT), aim to uplift underprivileged learners by providing essential resources and support.
This accolade highlights the WCED’s dedication to building a skilled workforce and preparing learners for STEM careers. It serves as a catalyst for future projects, inspiring the province to broaden its impact.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated tutors, the Luhlaza Centre team, Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, the Metro East Education District, and all involved stakeholders. Together, we are creating a brighter future, unlocking the potential of every learner.
This award is a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication in education. With continued support, we strive to secure a brighter future for many more learners in underprivileged communities. We invite SETAs and industry partners to join us in nurturing a new generation of thinkers, problem solvers and leaders.
