The pride of their schools, their parents and their community were celebrated at the Western Cape’s 2024 National Senior Certificate Awards Ceremony at Leeuwenhof on 30 January 2025.
Head of Education, Brent Walters, described the event as the culmination of at least 12 years of sustained hard work and sacrifice by the award recipients. The event also honoured top schools in various categories.
Western Cape Education Minister, David Maynier, said because of the challenges the education sector had to face over the past year, the extraordinary achievements of the Class of 2024 were so much sweeter.
“To our top candidates, we are so proud of what you have achieved. Your schools are so proud of what you have achieved, and your families are so proud of what you have achieved. You have proved that you are the best of the best, and there is no limit to what you can achieve.”
The top candidate in the Western Cape and the best in the country, Rayyan Ebrahim from Pinelands High School, received a standing ovation for his hard work and dedication. Another Pinelands High School matriculant, Matthew Wise, achieved second place in the province and the country. Nicholas Schreiber, from Rondebosch Boys High School, was in third place.
