Sezario Tafel prepares to shine at upcoming SA Championships!

12 March 2024

Bellville South Primary School will be rooting for Sezario Tafel, an athlete to watch out for at the SASA Primary Schools Athletics Championship in Germiston later this month.

Principal Quentin Heinrich said Sezario is a remarkable 12-year-old boy whose resilience and hard work make him an inspiration to everyone around him. “Despite facing numerous challenges growing up in an underprivileged community, Sezario's determination, attention to detail and deep empathy for others have shaped him into a well-rounded and exceptional individual.”

Sezario has been described as a true embodiment of the values of his school and an inspiration to his peers. “His ability to excel in aspects of life showcases his strong work ethic and positive mindset and his participation in the South African Under-12 Boys 1200m in 2024 is a testament to his dedication and talent.”

He achieved his Western Province (WP) colours in both athletics and cross country and represented the province at the nationals in 2024. Most recently he represented WP in Paarl and obtained a silver medal, earning a spot at the SA Championship in Germiston from 20 – 22 March 2025.

Sezario’s triumphs in various WP Little Athletes competitions, where he often claimed first place in events like the 100m, 150m, long jump and 1200m, highlight his exceptional abilities. Under the guidance of his coach, Daniel van der Ventel, Sezario continues to shine.

His principal said despite his exceptional athletic achievements, the Grade 6 learner remains humble and grounded. “He understands that true greatness is not measured by medals or records, but by the impact he has on others and his ability to stay true to himself. He knows that every milestone is just a step on his journey, and he remains focused on growth, not glory. On the track he often inspires others to push themselves, realising that success is not just about personal gain, but about uplifting others along the way.”

Sezario also excels academically and received a diploma for best performance in Mathematics at the school’s Diploma Ceremony last year. For the past three years, he was nominated as Sportsman of the year.

“We are very proud to have Sezario Tafel as a learner at Bellville South Primary and wish him all of the best for his future,” Principal Heinrich concluded.
