Latest Language and Maths scores show that we are winning!

31 January 2025

Schools are celebrating after the systemic test results for 2024 show progress in getting children’s learning #BackOnTrack with selected scores surpassing Covid-19 levels.

The pass rates for Grade 9 Mathematics and Grade 3 Language are now higher than they were in 2019 and the remaining grades and subjects are catching up quickly.

Here are the highlights:

  • Grade 9 Maths pass rate increased by 2,9% from 2023, exceeding 2019 scores.
  • Grade 3 Maths results jumped by 4,3% from 2023.
  • Grade 3 Language scores improved by 2,9% from 2023, beating 2019 pass rates.
  • Grade 6 Language pass rate increased by 4,0% from 2023.

Western Cape Education Minister, David Maynier, praised the progress, but emphasised that there's still work to be done, with an even greater focus on learning outcomes and targeted support to schools.

Each school will receive individual reports to help them address unique learning gaps. The #BackOnTrack programme will also continue to provide interventions to support learners.

A big thank you to all the dedicated school staff, officials, tutors, and learners who've worked tirelessly to improve learning outcomes!
