Empowering youth in Metro Central schools

7 March 2025

A non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young people with skills and resilience has joined forces with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). MOT SA launched its partnership with the Positive Behaviour Intervention and Resource Centre (PBIRC), an institution in Wynberg that supports learners with behavioural challenges through various interventions and resources.  This collaboration focuses on the WCED’s Positive Behaviour Programme to empower youth.

The MOT life skills programme will be implemented in ten schools in the Metro Central District:

  • Bonteheuwel High
  • Easter Peak Primary
  • Mount View Secondary
  • Ned Doman High
  • Rhodes High
  • Rylands High
  • Salt River Secondary
  • Silverstream Secondary
  • Spes Bona High
  • Vista High

Teachers at these schools have already undergone training, including a three-day workshop to equip educators with the skills to run MOT sessions within their schools. The training covered MOT’s philosophy, interactive teaching methods, and hands-on facilitation techniques, ensuring that educators are well-prepared to implement the programme over a three year period.

The MOT life-skills programmes assist with managing peer pressure, self-belief and taking responsibility for your own life and future. MOT focuses strongly on the development of self-confidence, sound values, positive attitude and behaviour, self-leadership and respect and care for others.

The launch event brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including community businesses, SAPS, educators, WCED officials, parents and media representatives. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the MOT programme, its benefits, and how it is being implemented in participating schools.

  • Neville Goliath, Provincial Manager of the WCED’s Positive Behaviour Programme: “Building bridges with acts of kindness and respect ensures relationships that stand the test of time. With MOT SA, every connection becomes a valued partnership.”
  • Viola Manuel, Country Director at MOT SA: “MOT is about building a culture of courage, care and resilience among young people. Our collaboration with PBIRC aims to create long-term positive impacts in these schools, shaping the next generation of leaders who will uplift their communities.”

MOT SA will support educators and learners through training, mentorship, and monitoring to ensure the programme’s success. The partnership aims to provide sustainable, long-term benefits for young people in the district.
