NOTICE OF INTENTION TO COMPILE A NEW WESTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK

14 August 2024

I, Anton Wilhelm Bredell, Provincial Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, give notice in terms of regulation 2 of the Western Cape Land Use Regulations, 2015, of my intention to compile a new  Western Cape Provincial Spatial Development Framework (WCPSDF).

The new WCPSDF aims to—

(a) make provision for the coordination, integration, and alignment of provincial development policy in respect of the provincial functional areas in Schedules 4 and 5 to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 and its land use implications;

(b) indicate desirable land use, and promote predictability in the utilisation of land; and

(c) facilitate coordination, integration and alignment of national, provincial, and municipal land use planning policy, including  spatial planning.

The process for compiling the WCPSDF is that I will appoint an ad hoc intergovernmental steering committee to compile the WCPSDF, and public input will be invited once a draft WCSDF has been compiled.

The current WCPSDF is available at:
