Current slip areas are extremely satured. This is due to the current inclement weather.

A decision has been made to close the Franschhoek Pass. This was in the interest of road user safety. 

The Franschhoek Pass will remain closed until further notice. 

Road users should factor in additional travel time to use alternatice routes. 

Safety of road users is of the utmost importance. The decision to close a road is not taken lightly. 

ROAD CLOSURE: MR310 - road linking Citrusdal to N7 

 

A section of the MR310 (road linking Citrusdal to the N7) has wahsed away. This road will remain closed until further notice.

Road users should factor in additional travel time to use alternatice routes.

Good news for evacuated Newton residents as authorities give them green light to return

 

It is good news for the approximately 900 evacuated households of Newton, Wellington, as they have been given the green light to return home.

Working in consultation with the Department of Water and Sanitation and a dam engineering specialist, Drakenstein Municipality’s Engineering Services department performed another onsite inspection this morning of the farm dam above Newton and confirmed that the risk of dam wall failure has been mitigated.
