Media Release: Premier thanks Western Cape Government family after provincial government recognised as top employer in SA

Premier Alan Winde is delighted that the Western Cape Government (WCG) has been recognised as a Top Employer in South Africa for 2023.

“I am very proud of all 80 000 members of our WCG family. Your dedication and commitment to serving the residents of our province never goes unnoticed and is always appreciated,” Premier Winde said.

Dr Harry Malila, Director General of the WCG, added, “Our colleagues are very special to us. I am deeply thankful and appreciative for all they do in the service of the people of the Western Cape. Well done for helping us to be recognised as top employer in the country. It is through your hard work that we stand head and shoulders above the rest of the country.”

The Premier continued, “As important as our residents are to everything we do, so too are our employees who work tirelessly to keep the Western Cape the best performing province in the country often amid difficult circumstances. Through the Covid-19 pandemic, relentless power cuts, the recent mini-bus taxi strike – no matter the challenges, our employees forge ahead to keep delivering for our citizens.

The Top Employers Institute programme certifies organisations based on the participation and results of their People/HR Best Practices Survey.

The survey covers a range of performance areas such as talent acquisition, learning, wellbeing and inclusion.

Premier concluded, “Despite the adversities that we as the provincial government encounter, I know I can always count on the employees of our government to shine through. Your wellbeing is critical to us and we will always strive to create a healthy, thriving work environment for you. Thank you once again for all you do.”
