What is the youth in built environment programme?
The Youth in Built Environment programme is a job creation and training initiative that promotes the participation of youth between the ages of 18 and 34 to actively participate in the Built Environment. The programme focuses on training unemployed youth on accredited short skills programmes (three-month institutional (TVET) training and three months of practical on-site work exposure), 12-month learnership programmes in areas with active housing projects.
What are the requirements?
- Must be a South African citizen
- Have a valid Identity Document
- Be between the ages of 18 and 34
- Must have a minimum Grade 10 or higher (depending on the programme)
- Must be able to read and write
- Have a valid and active bank account
- Youth must be willing to undergo medical observation from a medical practitioner
- Must attend the compulsory orientation
- Must be willing to sign a volunteer agreement
If I am selected, what documents will I need?
- Certified Identity Document
- Proof of address (in the youth’s name)
- Proof of banking details
- Proof of highest grade passed
- Medical certificate confirming fitness for construction work is required)

- Women in construction
- Basic understanding or interest in construction or the built environment is advantageous.
