The Directorate Projects/Programme Infrastructure Delivery: General Infrastructure of the Department of Transport and Public Works has completed a R1.8 m rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation at 7–15 Wale Street as part of the Western Cape Government’s ongoing commitment to the use of renewable energy.
The new system has a capacity of 83 kWp and can generate 132 024 kWh of electricity in a year (1.9% of the building’s total energy requirement). The installation life cycle of the system is 20 years and it will pay for itself in approximately ten years. In Year One, the system will save R150 000.
The project, which created one job, commenced on 24 February 2021 and was completed on 31 August 2021.
