Social Housing

Social Housing is an affordable rental option for households earning between R1 850 - R22 000 per month. The development and management of Social Housing is undertaken by accredited Social Housing Institutions (SHIs) and/or Other Delivery Agents (ODAs). To qualify for social housing, one is required to meet a range of criteria set out by the Social Housing Act (No. 16 of 2008) and Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA).

How does someone qualify for this service?

• Households earning between R1850-R22000 per month (gross monthly income).
• You're a South African citizen or have a permanent residency permit.
• You're 18 years or older.
• You're married or living with a partner.
• You're single or divorced and have proven financial dependents permanently living with you.

How do I access the service?

• Social housing units become available within existing projects, or within new social housing projects that are being developed. The availability of social housing units is advertised by the various SHIs or ODAs, either directly on their websites, and/or via social media platforms and  various property platforms, such as Property 24. The table below showcases the Social Housing projects that are situated in the Western Cape, including details of SHIs or ODAs managing these projects.
