MR 201 - Wemmershoek Road: single lane traffic: 14 - 22 August 2024
Following a road failure on MR201 (also known as the R301 or Wemmershoek Road) between Val de Vie Estate and the MR191 intersection, remedial works commenced. Unfortunately, the failed area and presence of ground water is more extensive than anticipated.
The existing earth drains was reshaped, and the culvert was opened but the longitudinal grade is not sufficient. The site is prepped, and the team will commence with the box cut today followed by the construction of the pioneer layer and pavement layers.
Once the current failed lane is repaired, traffic will be shifted to the reconstructed lane for proactive work to be done on the other lane to avoid a similar failure.
Single lane traffic at the affected section will remain in place till the repair is completed. The anticipated completion date is, weather permitting, 22 August 2024. An update will be issued should the situation change.
