A contractor has been appointed to perform flood damage repairs to Trunk Road 33/4 and Trunk Road 34/2 (N12 between De Rust and Prince Albert).
Work is required following flood damage to road and other infrastructure, most notably in the Meiringspoort section of the road. This R18-million project was scheduled to commence on 9 September but was halted by community members. If all goes according to plan, the project is scheduled to be completed by 15 December 2024.
The road authority (the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure) is aware of a popular road-running race scheduled for 12 October 2024. To this end the rest areas at the two starting points are being prioritised. Should this work not be done in time, it may require the organisers to arrange temporary ablution facilities along the route. The Department is in contact with the race organisers to ensure that the well-known race goes ahead.
