Minister Mitchell to launch JTTC at Riviersonderend Secondary School

12 October 2022
Department of Transport and Public Works

The Provincial Minister of Mobility, Daylin Mitchell, will tomorrow, Thursday 13 October 2022, launch a new Junior Traffic Training Centre (JTTC) at Riviersonderend Secondary School in the Overberg District.

The launch will be conducted in partnership with the Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Education Department and the Theewaterskloof Municipality.

Learners from Riviersonderend Secondary School are crossing the busy N2 highway on their way to and from school daily, putting their lives in danger. The aim of the JTTC is to teach learners good safety habits using a safe environment in which they are not exposed to real-life traffic hazards. This is important in the fight against pedestrian killings, especially child pedestrian killings, which is a serious concern in South Africa.

JTTCs are implemented by the Department of Transport and Public Works Directorate, Road Safety Management on behalf of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

Details are as follows:

Date:   Thursday, 13 October 2022

Time:   10:30

Venue: Riviersonderend Secondary School

Members of the media are most welcome to attend the event. There will be opportunities for media interviews and photographs.
