Minister Mitchell encourages drivers to renew licences to avoid last minute peak
Media Release by Daylin Mitchell, Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works
I urge all motor vehicle drivers with licences that will expire on 31 August 2021 to use the remaining few days to renew their driving licences before the end of the month to avoid panic and long queues.
The deadline for extended 2020 licence renewals as gazetted on 03 December, is next week Tuesday, 31 August 2021.
The Gazette extended affected learners’ licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits that expired from 26 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 and deemed them valid for a grace period ending 31 August 2021.
All the 61 driving licence testing centers in the Western Cape are open and ready to assist drivers to renew their licences.
I encourage all Western Cape drivers to make use of the remaining few days to visit driving licence testing centres to renew their licences in order to avoid last minute rush. These visits will, however, be subject to meeting all the requirements of the national COVID-19 health and safety directives.
I also welcome the City of Cape Town’s online eServices aimed at helping to avoid the vehicle licence renewal peak and the long customer office queues.
