Provincial Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers launched the Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP)/ Help-Me-Buy-A-Home project at Conradie Park in Pinelands, Cape Town on 19 October. The Help-Me-Buy-A-Home subsidy targets families with a dependant over the age of 18 who earn between R3 501 and R22 000 per month, and who have never received a government grant or owned property before.
The Conradie Park development is a Better Living Model project to build 3 500 housing units in a residential-led, mixed-use, mixed-income development on the former Conradie Hospital site in Pinelands which caters for a variety of income levels and which offers affordable housing options to qualifying buyers.
Simmers said, “Owning your own property doesn’t have to remain a dream, it can become a reality. When the provincial government initiated the Better Living Model, we asked ourselves, how can we change people’s lives and restore hope to many who have lost hope? The FLISP/ Help-Me-Buy-A-Home is a story of hope of 266 units of which 201 have been handed over to first time homeowners. The next phase is set for occupation early in December.”
Residents at Conradie Park can rest assured that their safety is a top priority. The building has intelligent/ smart security features such as linked number plate recognition and CCTV (closed circuit television) surveillance. The fully
integrated development is pedestrian-orientated with dedicated bicycle and pedestrian paths that provide connections to nearby public transport hubs.
Provincial Minister Simmers added, “363 job opportunities were created when the project started in May 2021. Another key element is to empower small medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs). Over 40 SMMEs participated in this development”.
