Minister Marais welcomes Graduation and Employment of 12 New Peace Officers in Cape Agulhas Municipality

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has welcomed the graduation and employment of 12 new Peace Officers in the Cape Agulhas Municipality.

The graduates successfully completed the accredited Peace Officer and Traffic Warden training programme and will now assist the municipality in maintaining law and order, enhancing crime prevention initiatives, and improving safety.

The Peace Officer programme forms part of the Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety’s commitment to strengthening Municipal Law Enforcement capacity across the province.

This partnership builds on the successful collaboration between the department and Cape Agulhas Municipality, which saw 20 Peace Officers graduate during the 2023/24 financial year. Following further engagements, the partnership was expanded to provide additional accredited training opportunities aimed at strengthening local law enforcement capacity.

The 30-day accredited programme provided learners with theoretical and practical training in:
• Law Enforcement and the Constitution;
• The Constitution of South Africa;
• Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure;
• The National Road Traffic Act and Traffic Warden functions;
• Schedule 1 and 3 offences;
• Law of Evidence and Criminal Courts;
• Administrative notices and enforcement procedures; and
• Professional Conduct and Organisational Ethics.

Upon successful completion, graduates received two accredited SAQA certificates:
• SAQA ID 377224 – Peace Officer and Traffic Warden; and
• SAQA ID 120746 – Professional Conduct and Organisational Ethics.

Minister Marais said, "The Peace Officer programme continues to provide municipalities with much-needed law enforcement capacity while creating valuable employment and skills development opportunities for young people. We remain committed to investing in safer communities and empowering municipalities to enhance public safety through well-trained and professional Peace Officers." 

The Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety will continue to work closely with municipalities across the province to strengthen local law enforcement capacity and create safer communities for all residents.
