MINISTER MARAIS CONDEMNS DEADLY SHOOTINGS IN KAYAMANDI AND CALLS FOR PERPETRATORS TO BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has condemned the shocking wave of violence that claimed the lives of seven people in several separate shooting incidents in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, between Friday evening and Saturday morning.
According to information released by the South African Police Service, the incidents occurred across multiple locations in the area and left seven individuals dead. Provincial Serious Violent Crime detectives have since launched a manhunt for those responsible.
Minister Marais expressed her deepest concern about this brazen lawlessness.
“This level of criminality and brutality cannot be tolerated in any community. The continued loss of life at the hands of ruthless criminals is devastating and has a deeply traumatising impact on residents who are forced to live in fear,” said Minister Marais.
Minister Marais called on SAPS to spare no effort or resources in ensuring that those responsible are identified, arrested, and successfully prosecuted.
“I urge SAPS to utilise every available resource to track down these perpetrators and ensure that they face the full might of the law. We cannot allow this kind of violence and lawlessness to go unchecked,” Minister Marais added.
Minister Marais also appealed to the community to work closely with investigators and provide any information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
“Community cooperation remains critical in the fight against violent crime. I appeal to residents who may have information regarding these incidents to come forward and assist SAPS. Information shared responsibly can help bring justice to the victims and prevent further bloodshed,” she said.
Minister Marais further reiterated the urgent need for stronger intelligence-led policing and sustained interventions to combat violent and organised crime in vulnerable communities across the province.
