Minister Marais condemns Councillor Gungxe`s killing and ask for thorough investigation
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has strongly condemned the senseless and brutal attack that claimed the life of City of Cape Town Councillor Lazola Gungxe, who was shot and killed in his office in Crossroads.
“I extend our sincere condolences to Councillor Gungxe’s family, friends, colleagues, and the community he served during this extremely difficult time”, Minister Marais said.
His murder is deeply concerning and cannot be tolerated. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and must be met with the full might of the law.
I call on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to conduct a thorough and urgent investigation to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are identified, apprehended, and brought to book without delay.
The Western Cape Government further urges anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward. Members of the public can report information anonymously via the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or on the MySAPS mobile application. Tips can also be shared through the City of Cape Town tip-off line on 0800 110077. Every piece of information, no matter how small, may assist investigators.
“I encourage residents to make use of these anonymous reporting platforms so that those responsible for this tragic act can be held accountable”, Minister Marais concluded.
