Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais has commended South African Police Service (SAPS) members from the Anti-Gang Unit who went the extra mile to keep drugs and illegal firearms off the streets in Delft, Cape Town.

Minister Marais said, “On Saturday, 18 January 2025 members of the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit  searched a house in Crusader Street, Delft, where they found one hundred rounds of ammunition. A man was arrested. The Anti-Gang Unit members then went to a house in Coronado Street. Upon arrival, the owner incited his three pitbull dogs to attack the SAPS members who were attacked by these dogs. Rubber bullets were fired. The owner of the dogs was arrested for inciting the dogs to attack the SAPS members. In the house the SAPS members found an unlicensed firearm, nine rounds of ammunition, Mandrax and tik.”

Minister Marais continued, "I want to commend the members of the Anti-Gang Unit for doing their duty in very tough circumstances. Not even a vicious pitbull attack could deter them. It is this kind of commitment to duty which will help us win the war against crime in the Western Cape.”
