Mr Mohale Sebopetsa
Department of Agriculture: Head of Department
About Mohale
Dr Mohale Sebopetsa lives by the motto that states that today's problems can't be solved by the same level of thinking that created the problem. Mohale came from a very poor family that relied on subsistence farming. “As the eldest child, I found myself having to support my mother with subsistence farming and her informal business at the age of 11.
He grew up in a small village called Ga-Matipane in Limpopo and attended Masopha High School.
He went on to graduate with a BSc Agric (Animal Science) Degree in 1998 from the University of Limpopo and started his very first job at the Gauteng Department of Agriculture as the Agricultural Development Technician at the tender age of 22.
Mohale said he always managed to work under great leaders. “Mr Willy Moeng (now retired) was my first boss at the Gauteng Department of Agriculture. He was a caring individual, who very much believed in the youth and always encouraged us to look for new ways to solve problems. One of the key lessons were that one cannot pour from an empty cup. With this he encouraged us to always look for knowledge and improve ourselves. This same principle has stayed with me to this day - I believe in continuous learning.”
He started working at the Department of Agriculture in 2006, and more than two decades into his journey in Government for Mohale it remains a privilege to serve our citizens, especially in the agricultural sector which is central to all sectors of the economy.
Mohale assumed his duties as the new HoD for Agriculture in the Western Cape on 1 April 2020.
